We all remember Pac-Man from its' popularity as an arcade game growing up - well now it looks like the latest release of the game is taking a page out of the Doodle Jump playbook - it looks almost like the exact same game! "Pac-Man's at it again, feeding his hunger for yummy yellow dots," says the App Store listing for the curiously-named Pac'n-Jump. "Bouncing and bopping, he just can't stop! Bounce for the skies! Keep your momentum, but be careful: one fall and it's back to the bottom."
Sounds like a pretty big rip off of Doodle Jump if you ask me.
So what is the goal for Namco, the maker of this new Pac'n Jump game? Well apparently they must have seen how popular games like Doodle Jump have become on mobile devices, and were looking for any possible way to use the well known Pac-Man brand name to capitalize on the trend. Here's a brief breakdown of how the game works - Pac-Man jumps up a series of neverending platforms, collecting power ups along the way. Sound familiar?
This isn't the first game which has been inspired by Doodle jump - in fact, there are close to 100 games that mimic the overall visual style of the popular Doodling game. Is it a testament to great, simple design and addictive gameplay? To some degree, but you have to wonder how the makers of Doodle Jump feel about their core idea being used so freely by competing developers. Although Doodle Jump has sold far more games than Pac-Man likely ever will, it's important to watch the trends set by games like Doodle Jump, Angry Birds, Flight Control, and more - because they are a great indication of what trend might be coming next.
If you'd like to download Pac'n Jump and give it a try for yourself, it's available here. Tell us what you think about this Pac-Man inspired version of Doodle Jump in the comments!

Getting started is easy - you just need to upgrade your app to the latest version!
One of the creators of Doodle Jump, Igor Pusenjak, was quoted as saying, "It feels great to finally release the multi-player update to the millions of Doodle Jumpers around the world. Competing against your friends for the high score has always been one of the most fun aspects of Doodle Jump. This update transforms the experience with real-time jumping races." We agree!
Play Doodle Jump Multiplayer
How do you play Doodle Jump multiplayer? It is handled through Game Center, a popular social way to play many games in multiplayer mode. Since this was only just announced, it remains to be seen if Doodle Jump multiplayer mode makes a larger impact on the doodle jumping community, but with plans for a version of the game for Xbox Kinect and iPad, we can be assured that this is just the first in a series of release planned for 2011.
